April Programs and Events

Spring is very slowly coming to Newark, and the library, as always, is the place to gather for a wide variety of programs and activities. Whether you would like some lessons to improve your gardening, instructions on how to make a relaxing and beautiful craft, or just to find a new book to read, the library is here to help!

Adult Programs

Crafting With Becky Sloane: Painting Flowers - April 3rd at 6 P.M.
Learn how to paint flowers with craft master Becky Sloane! There is a fee of $7 for materials.
Native Plants With Master Gardener Kathryn Franz - April 3rd at 6:30 P.M.

Learn the benefits of growing plants native to this area. Kathryn Franz will teach you about a variety of perennials, grasses, sedges, ferns, and ground covers that will enhance the beauty of your garden or landscape.
Tax Preparation - Wayne CAP VITA TCE - Mondays through Thursdays
The first week in April is the last week to take advantage of the services of the Wayne CAP professionals, who give free help on filing income taxes. To make an appointment, call them directly at (315) 665-0131 ext. 210.
Mah Jongg - Tuesdays at 5 P.M.
Join our Mah Jongg expert, Carol, to enjoy this relaxing and addicting Chinese tile game.
Resume Help - Wednesdays at 1 P.M. and 4 P.M.
Your resume is one of the most important documents you have, and it is important to keep it up to date. Whether you need to spice up an existing document or create an entirely new one, Newark Public Library is here to help!
Voices and Views: 20th Century American Essays - April 5th and April 19th at 6:30 P.M.
This series, facilitated by Joe O'Toole, will cover a variety of short essays that embody the American experience, in one way or another. We have secured a New York State Humanities grant to support the program.
Cards in the Library - Thursdays at 4 P.M.
Each Thursday, we will host a different game. The first Thursday of the month is Euchre, the second is Cribbage, the third is Hearts, and the fourth is Dealer's Choice.
Knitting Circle - Thursdays at 6:30 P.M.
This relatively new group is designed to bring together any knitters or crochets from Newark or the surrounding areas. Although we are not offering lessons at the moment, we may in the future.
Gadget Guide - April 10th and April 24th at 6 P.M.
If you have a gadget, device, or other piece of tech that is giving you trouble, bring it in to the library, and we will see if we can help you with it.
Dog Lovers' Party - April 12th at 6 P.M.

Along with stories and activities designed for dog people, we will also be hosting some adoptable dogs from the Wayne County Humane Society. Make sure to stop by to give the dogs some love!
Board Meeting - April 13th at 6:30 P.M.
The monthly meetings of the Newark Public Library Board of Directors are open to the public. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for the running of the library, feel free to join us.
Beyond the Covers - Book Discussion - April 17th at 6:30 P.M.

April's selection for the book club is The Midwife of Hope River by Patricia Harman. This novel is set in Appalachia during the Great Depression, and follows a woman named Patience Murphy as she provides midwife services for people who can no longer afford a doctor.
Vegetable Gardening with Master Gardener Ruth Schutt - April 17th at 6:30 P.M.
Learn how to make the most of your vegetable garden with tips from Cornell on how to avoid common pitfalls and increase your harvest.

Child and Teen Programs

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays at 10 A.M.
Every Tuesday morning, we host an hour of stories, crafts, songs, and fun for the preschool crowd.
LEGO Night - April 5th at 6 P.M.
The library's large collection of LEGOs will allow kids to let their imaginations run wild!
Video Game Night - April 12th and April 24th at 6 P.M.
The library boasts a few different consoles and devices, but teens should feel free to bring their own, or to play board games.
Evening Storytime - April 26th at 6 P.M.
Once a month, we host an evening storytime, for those who may not be able to come to the weekly morning sessions.
