February Programs and Events

As January turns into February, the coldest part of the winter is upon us. As always, however, the Newark Public Library is a place of warmth and sanctuary. come in to get out of the cold, and while you're here, check out one of our many books, use our public computers, or check out one of our programs. Whether you're looking for help with your tax returns or just to entertain yourself, Newark Public Library has something for you.

Adult Programs:

Tax Preparation - Wayne CAP VITA TCE - Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 A.M. to 5 P.M.
Tax season is coming up, and dealing with the forms and paperwork can be confusing. Luckily, the Newark Public Library is here to help! Aside from providing all of the tax forms you need, free of charge, we are also holding a tax preparation program throughout the next few months. We will have trained professionals here four days a week to answer your questions and help you through. Appointments are necessary, and can be made by calling (315) 665-0131 ext. 210.
Resume Help - Wednesdays at 1 P.M. and 4 P.M.
Whether you're looking to create an entirely new document or just improve an existing one, we aim to make your resume as strong as possible.
Adult Reading and Book Discussion Series - February 1st at 6:30 P.M.
In this six month long discussion series, facilitated by Joe O'Toole, we will be using plays to look at the themes of good and evil, and, more specifically, what makes a good or bad person. This month's selection will be August: Osage County by Tracy Letts, which was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film in 2013.
 
Cards in the Library - Thursdays at 4 P.M.
Our card group cycles through a variety of games every month. The first week will be Euchre, the second will be Cribbage, the third will be Hearts, and the fourth will be Dealer's Choice.
Newark Knitting Circle - Thursdays at 6:30 P.M.
If you knit or crochet, we'd be delighted to have you join the new knitting circle that is forming at the library! There are currently no plans to set up instruction, but it may happen in the future. 
Mah Jongg - Tuesdays at 5 P.M.
Mah Jongg is an easy and addictive Chinese tile game. Both newcomers and experienced players are welcome at our weekly game!
Board Meeting - February 9th at 6 P.M.
The Newark Public Library Board of Directors is instrumental in running the library. Their monthly meetings are open to the public, so stop by if you're interested in finding out what goes on behind the scenes to keep things going smoothly.
Friends of Newark Public Library Book Review Luncheon - February 12th at 12 P.M.
Each month, the Friends of the Newark Public Library host a luncheon at which they invite a speaker. This month's speaker will be Pat Gorthy, reading a selection from the book They Left Us Everything by Plum Johnson. The cost to attend the luncheon is five dollars, and space is very limited, so make sure you call the library at (315) 331-4370 to reserve your place.
 
Gadget Guide - February 13th and February 27th at 6 P.M.
Got a gadget that's giving you a hard time? Bring it in to the library and our resident tech expert, Graham, will see if he can make it behave.
Board Game Night - February 20th at 4 P.M.
The library has an extensive collection of board games, from the classics to newer models. Whether you feel like Monopoly or Scrabble, come on down to the library to meet some like-minded people!

Child and Teen Programs:

Morning Craft - Thursdays at 10 A.M.
Join us for a fun and easy morning craft!
Storytelling With Scratch: Google CS First Computer Coding Course - Thursdays at 4 P.M.
We're continuing with our coding course throughout February. This program, which is designer for children in fifth grade and up, will teach the participants the basics of coding with Google CS. Although the course has already started, give the library a call if you are interested, and we can see if there are any spaces available.
Teen Movie - Teens Pick! - February 6th at 6 P.M.
We'll have a selection of different movies for teens to choose from.
Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays at 10 A.M.
Preschool age kids love our Tuesday morning story hour, which includes reading, singing, dancing, crafts, and fun with friends! Younger children are welcome as well.
Family Movie - Finding Dory - February 13th at 6 P.M.
In the much-awaited sequel to 2003's Finding Nemo, we learn the backstory of the lovable and forgetful blue tang, Dory. This movie is sure to be fun for the entire family!
 
Family Craft - Paint by Sticker - February 21st at 12 P.M.
All the fun of painting without the mess! Use different colors and shapes of stickers to create your very own masterpiece.
Pokemon Club - February 22nd at 6 P.M.
Bring your Pokemon cards to the library to battle and trade with friends! While you're here, make sure to check out our collection of Pokemon books.
