October Programs and Events

 Happy October! As the weather gets colder and Halloween draws near, it is the perfect time to stop by the Newark Public Library to pick up a good book. While you're here, you can also check out the variety of programs and activities that we offer. Adult Programs

Adult Craft Class - October 3rd at 6 P.M.
Make a beautiful fall wreath for decorating your home or giving as a gift! There will be many different options so that your wreath can be completely unique. There will be a $7 materials fee, payable at the class.
Resume Help - Wednesdays at 1 P.M. and 4 P.M.
Whether you need to punch up an existing resume, or create an entirely new one from scratch, Newark Library is here to help! Learn how to create a document that will get you noticed by employers.
Adult Reading and Book Discussion Series - October 5th at 6:30 P.M.
 Joe O'Toole will facilitate discussion on a series of plays, focusing on the themes of good and evil. October's play will be Orpheus Descending, by Tennessee Williams. 

Cards in the Library - Thursdays at 4 P.M.
An ongoing event, Cards in the Library hosts a different game every Thursday. The first Thursday of the month will be Euchre, the second Cribbage, the third Hearts, and the fourth dealer's choice.
Gadget Guide - October 10th and October 24th at 6 P.M.
If you have a device, gadget, or piece of technology that is giving you trouble, bring it in to the library in order to learn a bit more about it!
Mah Jongg - Tuesdays at 5 P.M.
Whether you've played before or not, you can enjoy the relaxing Chinese tile game, Mah Jongg, every Tuesday in the library.
Vietnam Mailbag - October 12th at 6:30 P.M.
Join us for a very special reading and discussion at the library. Journalist Nancy E. Lynch, who wrote and published Vietnam Mailbag: Voices From the War 1968-1972, will read and discuss selected letters from the Vietnam War.
Board Meeting - October 13th at 6:30 P.M.
Every month, the Board of Directors meets in the library. The public is welcome to join the meeting as well.
Adult Writer's Group - October 14th and October 28th at 4 P.M.
All writers, no matter the genre or level of experience, are welcome to join the Adult Writer's Group at the Newark Public Library. The group meets every other week to discuss their ideas and read and critique one another's writing.
Board Game Night - October 17th at 4 P.M.
The library boasts a large collection of board games. From classics like Monopoly, to newer games like Settlers of Catan, there is a game that everyone will enjoy!
Beyond the Covers: Book Discussion - October 17th at 6:30 P.M.
October's book up for discussion will be Liane Moriarty's Big Little Lies, a novel that intertwines the lives of three very different women.

Genealogy Basics - October 26th at 6 P.M.
B.J. Meeks from the Wayne County Genealogical Society will guide you through the basics of discovering your family's history.

Child and Teen Programs

Teen Pizza and a Movie: Warm Bodies  - October 3rd at 6 P.M.
Join us at the library for yummy pizza and a good movie! This month's movie is Warm Bodies, starring Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer. Make sure to register, so that we know how much pizza to get!

Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays at 10 A.M.
Join us every week for an hour of stories, dancing, music, and fun!
LEGO Night - October 5th at 6 P.M.
Our large collection of LEGOs is available to build anything you can imagine.
Morning Craft - Thursdays at 10 A.M.
Each week, we will feature a different craft!
After School Craft: Button Making - October 12th at 3 P.M.
Learn how to make your own buttons or pins!
Minecraft Club - October 12th at 6 P.M.
Use the library computers to play Minecraft with your friends! 
Kid and Teen Recipe Party: Veggie Ranch Pizza - October 17th at 6 P.M.
Learn how to make Veggie Ranch Pizza, a delicious way to eat your vegetables!
After School Game Time - October 19th at 3 P.M.
If you need to unwind after school, come by the library for board games, or to play on our PS4!
Tech Time: LittleBits - October 19th at 5 P.M.
LittleBits are electronic building blocks that kids and adults alike can use to easily create and invent working machines. Come join us in the library for a demonstration of how these cool little building blocks work, and create something of your own!

Movie Night: Haunted Mansion - October 24th at 6 P.M.
Come and watch a spooky movie and make a craft! This month, we will be showing The Haunted Mansion, with Eddie Murphy.
After School Craft: Voodoo Dolls - October 26th at 3 P.M.
Learn how to make your own Voodoo doll, just in time for Halloween!
Pokemon Club - October 26th at 6 P.M.
Bring your Pokemon cards to the library to battle and trade with friends!
