August Programs and Events

 Beat the heat at Newark Public Library with our programs and events for adults, kids, and teens! In addition to our every day operations, the library also offers a variety of fun and informative programs throughout the year. Adult Programs:

Mah Jongg - Tuesdays at 5 P.M.

 


Everyone is welcome to play Mah Jongg, a tile game that originated in China.

Adult Craft Class - August 1st at 6 P.M.

Craft maven Becky Sloane will guide you through the steps to create your very own Leaf Relief painting! Space is very limited, so make sure you preregister. In addition, a small fee for supplies is required, and is payable at the class
.

Resume Help - Wednesdays at 1 P.M. and 4 P.M.

Need help spicing up an existing resume or creating a new one? NPL is here to help! You can either call ahead to schedule an appointment, or just stop by.

Cards in the Library - Thursdays at 4 P.M.

Every Thursday, we host a different game of cards. The first week of the month is Euchre, the second is Cribbage, the third is Hearts, and the last is dealer's choice.

Gadget Guide - August 8th and August 22nd at 6 P.M.

If you're having trouble using a device or gadget, let our technology experts take a look and teach you how to use it.

Board Meeting - August 11th at 6:30 P.M.

The monthly meeting of the Newark Public Library Board of Trustees is open to the public. If you are interested in the issues involved with running the library, feel free to stop by!
 

Adult Writer's Group - August 12th and August 26th at 4 P.M.

Join a group of writers to share ideas, critiques and skills. All writers are welcome, regardless of their form or genre.
 

Board Game Night - August 15th at 4 P.M.

We have a variety of board games in the library, from classics such as Scrabble and Chess, to newer games such as Settlers of Catan. Join us to play!
 

Beyond the Covers: Book Discussion - August 15th at 6:30 P.M.

Join our monthly book discussion! August's book will be Persuasion, by Jane Austen, and the book will be available at the main desk.


Child and Teen Programs

Children's Dance Party - August 1st and August 8th at 10 A.M. 

Learn some new dance moves and get moving! 
 

Preschool Story Time - Tuesdays at 10 A.M.

An hour of stories, songs, dancing, and crafts with Miss Krystina!

Kids Free Lunch - Monday through Thursday the first two weeks of August

Kids and teens up to age 18 can receive a free lunch while they read or use the computers.
 

Master Gardener - Compost Stew - August 1st at 1:30 P.M.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will join us to learn about composting with a story and a fun activity.
 

Kids Cooking Class - August 2nd at 1:30 P.M.

Learn the basics of cooking! This class is for grades 3-5, and space is very limited.
 

Teen Cooking Class - August 9th at 1:30 P.M.

Learn the basics of cooking! This class is for grades 6-12, and space is very limited.

Moon Sand Factory - August 3rd at 1:30 P.M.

Kids can learn how to make their own Moon Sand!

 

 

LEGO Night - August 3rd at 6 P.M.

Exercise your creativity with our large collection of LEGOs!

 

LEGO WeDo Robotics - August 4th and August 11th at 10 A.M.

Help create real robots using LEGOs.

 

Yoga for Kids - August 8th at 1:30 P.M. 

Learn some new yoga poses, just for kids!
 

Rainbow Paper Factory and Invisible Ink - August 10th at 1:30 P.M.

Make some magical rainbow paper and try writing with invisible ink!
 

Minecraft Club - August 10th at 6 P.M.

Play Minecraft on our computers
 

Marlin James Magic Show - August 17th at 1:30 P.M.

Come and see a magic show by the amazing Marlin James!

Pokemon Club - August 24th at 6 P.M.

Bring your cards to battle and trade with your friends. 

Pokemon GO Walk - August 16th at 1 P.M.

Playing Pokemon GO? Bring your parents and your device and we will walk around town to different PokeStops! A snack will be included when we return to the library.
