December Programs and Events

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas and New Year's fast approaching, Newark Public Library would like to remind everyone that it is available for a variety of needs. Whether you want to use our computers to search for that perfect gift for someone, check out one of our many cookbooks to cook a delicious dinner, or just relax away from holiday stress with a good book or one of our many programs, the library has something for you! Our December 2016 programs and events are as follows:

Adult Programs:

Cards in the Library - Thursdays at 4 P.M.
Since there are five Thursdays in December this year, we will run through the full list of card games. The first Thursday of the month is is Euchre, the second is Cribbage, the third is Hearts, the fourth is Dealer's choice, and the fifth is Bunco.
Mah Jongg - Tuesdays at 5 P.M.
Come and play Mah Jongg, a relaxing Chinese tile game, at the library. All are welcome, whether they have played before or not.
Resume Help - Wednesdays at 1 P.M. and 4 P.M.
If you're looking to build a resume, whether you're just starting or looking to have an existing document strengthened, Newark Public Library is here to help! Either call ahead to schedule an appointment, or just stop by.
Adult Reading and Book Discussion Series - December 7th at 6:30 P.M.
This six month long book discussion series, facilitated by Joe O'Toole, focuses on the themes of good and evil within several plays. This month, we will be discussing John Logan's Never the Sinner.

Board Meeting - December 8th at 6:30 P.M.
The monthly meeting of the library's Board of Trustees is open to the public.
Friends of Newark Public Library Book Review Luncheon - December 9th at 12 P.M.
Each month, the Friends of the Newark Public Library host a speaker to review a book they've read over lunch. This month's speaker will be Fred Hicks, reviewing American Heiress by Jeffrey Toobin and Day of Rage by Bryan Burrough. The cost for the Luncheon will be $5, and seats are very limited, so make sure you register!
Gadget Guide - December 12th at 6 P.M.
If you have a gadget or piece of technology that is giving you trouble, bring it in to the library! Our resident technical expert, Graham, will take a look at it for you.
Board Game Night - December 19th at 4 P.M.
The library has a large collection of board games, both classic and new. Come by for a relaxing afternoon of board games with friends.
Newark Adult Writers' Group - December 23rd at 4 P.M.
If you write and would like to meet and discuss the craft with other like-minded adults, join our writers' group, which meets once a month. No matter your genre, education, experience, or publishing history, you will be sure to find the group helpful.

Child and Teen Programs:

Morning Craft - Thursdays at 10 A.M.
Every Thursday morning, come in to learn how to make a fun and simple craft.
Preschool Storytime - Tuesdays at 10 A.M.
Join Miss Krystina every Tuesday morning for a kid-friendly hour of stories, crafts, singing, and dancing!
LEGO Night - December 7th at 6 P.M.
Come stretch your imagination with the library's large collection of LEGOs!
21st Century Students Choose - December 9th at 3 P.M.
Students from the Students Choose program, through Newark Central School district, will come to the library to participate in a variety of programs and projects.
Teen Movie - Teens Pick! - December 12th at 6 P.M.
For this month's Teen Movie, we will have three different movies to choose from. Make sure you sign up for the event, so that we know how many to expect!
Minecraft Club - December 14th at 6 P.M.
Use the library computers to play Minecraft with your friends. We have access to several Minecraft accounts, and using them is completely free!
Family Movie: The Jungle Book (2016) - December 19th at 6 P.M.
We will be showing the live action version of The Jungle Book, starring Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, and Idris Elba. This visually stunning film will be a treat for both adults and children.

Pokemon Club - December 28th at 6 P.M.
Bring Pokemon cards to battle and trade with your friends, or come in to discuss the new games, Pokemon Sun and Moon!
