Access Your
Genealogy and Learn a New Language at NPL
As a member of the Newark
Public Library and Pioneer Library System,, you can now
research your family history and learn over 60 languages through Ancestry.com
and Mango Languages.
For over a
year now,,
the Newark Public Library and the Pioneer Library System has provided access to
Ancestry.com. Ancestry is a premier
website for genealogy research, with billions of genealogy records in census
data, vital records, directories, photos, and more. Access to Ancestry is location based—users
must be in the library to access it.
When in the library, use your computer or a library computer and visit www.ancestrylibrary.com to discover
your unique family history. Library
staff can help get you started.
Mango
Languages (access their website here: http://owwl.org/resources/mango-languages)
is a fun and ingenious language learning website. With lessons for over 60 languages, including
English as a Second Language, Mango is an invaluable resource for anyone
desiring to hone their language skills.
It has videos, grammar guides, activities and more. Unlike Ancestry, you can access Mango
Languages from home! Just use the link
provided above.
NPL Seeks Treasurer
On a
completely separate note: the Newark Public Library Board of Trustees is
currently searching for a new Treasurer.
The Treasurer is required to attend board meetings, which occur
on the second Thursday of every month at 6:30pm, and Finance
Committee meetings. They would
also work with the board, Executive Director, and Account Clerk to
oversee the library’s finances. It is a
voluntary, non-voting position on the library’s Board of Trustees. It is a wonderful opportunity for anyone
interested in giving back to their community. If you are interested, know someone who is interested, or would like more
information, please contact me at smcconnell@newarklibrary.org
or by calling 315-331-4370.
